Warm Cap with Brim

Finished Measurement: fits 21" - 22” head circumference 

Materials: 4-ply acrylic yarn (light worsted weight), 80 gms ; crochet hook, size 7/0 or 4mm.

Abbreviations
ch = chain, sl st = slip stitch, sc = single crochet, dc = double crochet, hdc = half double crochet, st = stitch, rnd = round
Special stitches:

fpdc (front post double crochet) : yarn over (yo), insert hook from front to back and out to the front again, around the post of the dc of the row below, yo and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), (yo and draw through 2 loops ) twice.

dc tog (double crochet together): (yo, insert hook on next st, yo and pull up loop, yo and pull up through 2 loops) twice, yo and pull up through remaining 3 loops.

hdc tog (half-double crochet together): yo, insert hook on next st, yo and pull up a loop, insert hook on next st, yo and pull up a loop, yo and pull up through 4 loops on hook.

Gauge: 9 dc stitches and 4 dc rows = 2”

Notes

1. Cap is worked in rounds, joined with sl st after each last st. 

2. Ch 3 counts as first dc of each round.  

3. Crochet in back loops only, except for the fpdc’s. 

4. To begin a rnd with dc tog on the next two sts, ch 2 instead of 3, dc on the next st. To end that rnd, sl st to the top of the first dc made.

Cap
Start with ch 4, sl st to form ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, 12 sc in ring, join with sl st (12 sts).

(Note: work the next rnds in back loop only, except for the fpdc's)

Rnd 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in same st, 2 dc in each st, join (24 sts).

Rnd 3: (Dc in next st, 2 dc in next, dc in next st, dc and fpdc in next st)6 times, join (36 sts).
Rnd 4: (Dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next, dc in next 2 sts, dc and fpdc in next st)6 times, join (48 sts);
Rnd 5: (Dc in next 3 sts, 2 dc in next, dc in next 3 sts, dc and fpdc in next st)6 times, join (60 sts).
Rnd 6: (Dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in next, dc in next 4 sts, dc and fpdc in next st)6 times, join (72 sts).
Rnd 7: (Dc in next 5 sts, 2 dc in next, dc in next 5 sts, dc and fpdc in next st)6 times, join (84 sts).
Rnd 8: (Dc in next 6 sts, 2 dc in next, dc in next 6 sts, dc and fpdc in next st)6 times, join (96 sts).

Rnd 9: (Dc in next 7 sts, 2 dc in next, dc in next 7 sts, dc and fpdc in next st)6 times, join (108 sts).

Rnd 10: (Dc in next 8 sts, 2 dc in next, dc in next 8 sts, dc and fpdc in next st)6 times, join (120 sts).

Rnds 11 - 14: Dc on each dc, fpdc on each fpdc (120 sts).

Rnd 15: (Dc tog the next 2 sts, dc in next 8 sts, dc tog next 2 sts, dc in next 7 sts, fpdc in next fpdc) 6 times (108 sts).

Rnd 16: (Dc tog the next 2 sts, dc in next 7 sts, dc tog next 2 sts, dc in next 6 sts, fpdc in next fpdc) 6 times (96 sts).

Rnd 17 - 20: Ch 1, sc in each st around (96 sts).

Rnd 21: Ch 1, ss on both loops on the next 62 scs. Do not fasten off.

Brim

Note: Brim is worked with 2 strands of yarn held together. Ch 2 at beginning of each row does not count as a stitch. Crochet in both loops.

Row 1: Join another strand of yarn on the last stitch worked on rnd 21. Ch 2, hdc on next 7 sts, 2 hdc on next st, hdc on next 19 sts, 2 hdc on next st, hdc on next 7 sts , turn (37 sts).

Row 2 : ch 2, (hdc tog next 2 sts) twice, hdc on next 14 hdc, 2 hdc on next hdc, hdc on next 14 hdc, (hdc tog 2 sts) twice, turn (34 sts).

Row 3 : ch 2, hdc tog next 2 sts, hdc on next 30 sts, hdc tog last 2 sts, turn (32 sts).

Row 4 : ch 2, (hdc tog next 2 sts) twice, hdc on next 11 sts, 2 hdc on next hdc, hdc on next 12 hdc, (hdc tog 2sts) twice, turn (29 sts).

Row 5: ch 2, hdc tog next 2 sts, hdc on next 12 sts, 2 hdc on next hdc, hdc on next 12 sts, hdc tog last 2 sts, turn (28 sts).

Row 6: ch 2, hdc tog next 2 sts, hdc on next 24 sts, hdc tog last 2 sts (26 sts).

Fasten off. Weave in ends with needle.
