Color Guard

The Millbrook HS Band Department is proud to include Color Guard as part of its program. Our color guard is made up of students in grades 9-12 and come from all areas of the school. Members of the color guard perform with the Marching Pioneers during the fall and in all parades. During the winter and spring months, our guard becomes the Millbrook Winter Guard. Members of the guard perform on a variety of equipment, including flag, rifle, and sabre. The guard also does extensive dance work throughout their performances. Performing as members of the Marching Pioneers allows the guard the opportunity to be part of a large-scale production, while performing as an indoor performing group allows them to focus on turning a guard performance into a production in itself. Guard is an outstanding way to become involved in our band program.

Students wishing to join the Millbrook Color Guard go through an audition process, in which they are able to showcase the ability to dance, quickly learn equipment work, and show the type of attitude we are looking for from our guard members. We offer pre-audition practices where students can learn some basic skills that will help them gain knowledge quicker. These practices are open to anyone. Once the guard is set, they follow the same summer and fall practice schedule as the rest of the Marching Pioneers, including pre-school band camp, after-school rehearsals, and all performances. The color guard is open to anyone at Millbrook, both boys and girls. Whether you have previous experience with dance, body movement, band, or guard, or not, should not deter you from joining a fantastic group of students. Consider joining the Millbrook Color Guard!

Starting with the 2015-2016 school year, we are pleased to announce that the MHS Color Guard will be an extra-curricular activity, rather than an elective during the school day.  The fall season will run from August (starting with band camp) - October/early November (last game is November 6, 2015). Winter Guard will run from December - End of March. The fall guard will perform with the Marching Pioneers at the Old Town Holiday Parade. Winter Guard, along with those available from fall guard, will march in the Apple Blossom Parades in May.
