On the way back from Croatia last summer, I spent a night in Venice.  I assumed my GPS would help guide me through the maze of backstreets and narrow alleys.  My advice?  Don't assume any such thing.  The first thing I did in Venice was get lost.

The house numbers and street names are about as illogical as any modern European state can get.

But then I suppose that's half its charm.
