Mile High Waltz Weekend --
All Aboard for the Avalon Ballroom!!!
Richard Powers and Angela Amarillas
from the Bay Area, California
Friday August 2- Monday August 5, 2013
Avalon Ballroom, Boulder, CO
Join Richard and Angela for our much anticipated Mile High Waltz Weekend! Expect fun-filled and inspiring dancing, intermingled with flavors of Colorado's rich history! By popular request, there will be plenty of new cross-step waltz material, along with many other joyful and intriguing waltzes!
In addition to our dance workshops during the days on Saturday and Sunday, our weekend will open Friday evening with silent films reminiscent of the Wild West days in Colorado (some filmed on location in the Colorado Rockies!) Our films will be accompanied by pianist Rodney Sauer, nationally renowned Founder and Director of Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra, who will bring his deep knowledge of the silent cinema to our evening! Our films will be followed by our opening Barn Dance, accompanied in lively style by Rodney!
Saturday evening promises an old-fashioned ice cream social and casual dance at the Avalon, tinged with peeks into Colorado history! Dress is vintage or contemporary casual: come-as-you-are or with a Colorado historical flair...pioneer dress, bustle dress, jeans and vest, gingham dress, squaw dress, western boots, western hat, kerchief...it's yours to be creative!
Following our Sunday workshops, get yourselves all gussied up (vintage or contemporary) and join us Sunday for an optional Afternoon Tea on the mezzanine of the beautifully restored 1909 Hotel Boulderado in downtown Boulder. Sumptuous repast will await us, and the cozy dance floor will entice you to catch a few more dance steps at the close of the weekend.
And for a very special treat, you will have the option to join Richard for our Monday Train Day! We will begin with a trip to the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden, followed by lunch in the nearby mountains. In the afternoon, we will board the historic Georgetown Loop Railroad, a fantastic engineering marvel built in the 1880's. We will stop half way through the train ride to tour the historic Lebanon silver mine near Georgetown, a beautiful historic mountain town about 45 minutes west of Denver.
In case you don’t know, Richard has a longtime interest in historic railways, with a particular interest in Colorado historic trains, and a specific involvement years ago with this Georgetown Loop Railroad! So in addition to the pleasure of sharing his love and expertise of dance across the weekend, we can also partake of his love and expertise of historic trains on Monday!
