LPS SJ COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Visits to Slonaker Academy         Back to home page

We made two visits to Slonaker School  where we taught the Kindergarden classes about Trash, Recycling and the importance of planting trees.

We went to Slonaker Academy, a school right down the street where some of us went to school, to show them what trash was and what recycling was and to plant trees with them.  The students were excited to see us and ready to learn. Each class had 20 students, which we split into two 10 student groups and played games with.

TRASH BINGO

One group of students gathered at a table.  We would call out an item, and they would cover it on their bingo cards with a card.  We asked them whether it was trash or recyclable.

TRASH OR RECYCLE DECISION

Students were given things (paper, plastic, food box, can, gardening tool) and then told to put them in the right bucket, either Trash or Recycle.

Once everyone had played each game, we went outside to PLANT TREES.  Each group of 10 had its own tree.

Every student put a little dirt on the tree, then petted it, and named their trees.  The trees are Leo, Sandy, Planty and Apple.

After Tree Planting we had Juice!

The students really enjoyed our visits.
