This survey course in world history introduces a global perspective to the study of the modern world.  Tracking the shifting balances of global power since c. 1500 CE, the course pays particular attention to how societies around the world developed and interacted during those early years.  The course examines the waxing and waning of various systems of predominance and the influence of political, economic, religious, social, and cultural innovations within societies.  Strong emphasis is places on document interpretation and written and verbal analytical skills.
