This study examines the shifting disadvantages and advantages of ethnic minorities and women in human resource (HR) occupations in the U.S. since the 1960s. 

Many view HR professionals as central in reducing a range of workplace inequities. Others consider the hiring of HR professionals by companies as a tokenizing practice that promotes racialized and women-centered "ghettos." This research aims to unravel these often contradictory and indistinguishable perspectives.
