Welcome to a new Scouting year! We hope you’ve all had a great summer and are looking forward to getting started. Meetings this year will be held on Mondays from 7:30 to 9pm, beginning on MondaySeptember 12th.
There are a few changes to communications this year. Scouter Stephen is our new key leader, so the two of us will be the primary parent contacts for the year, though feel free to email any Scouter with your questions or concerns (our personal information will be at the end of this email). We will send out monthly newsletters regarding upcoming plans, events, camps and forms, as well as weekly reminders with information pertinent to the upcoming meeting. To see a full calendar of events, forms, and information, feel free to use our troop website. We would also recommend checking out the MyScouts website, myscouts.ca, which has all your information, as a registered Scout.
To 1st year Scouts, our weekly meeting uniform is the navy blue Mighty 4th t-shirt (which is available for order and purchase at our first meeting, for $10) and the neckerchief (which you will receive when you are invested into the troop). We also recommend you buy the official Scout uniform from the Scout Shop, the green button-down shirt ($34.99), for official Scouting events, but we don't expect this shirt at our weekly meetings.
Monday September 12th, First Meeting - To all scouts, please wear your uniforms, as there is an Advancement Ceremony with Akela for Cubs moving up (these Cubs, soon to be Scouts, can wear their Cub uniforms for this meeting). Parents are welcome to come and take pictures. The ceremony will take place at the beginning of the meeting.
September meetings - These meetings will be dedicated to helping 1st years learn the important Scouting skills needed for our first camp, with the leadership of the 2nd and 3rd years, through outdoor activities and games.
Wednesday September 28th,BBQ - There will be a family fun night and BBQ for the Mighty 4th. More details to follow.
October 1st-2nd, Alder's Challenge - For those 2nd and 3rd years interested in more outdoor adventure, the Alder's Challenge, a weekend camping trip and hike, may be right up your ally. More information will be give out in the coming meetings.
October 22nd-23rd, Fall Camp (!) - Fall camp is just around the corner! It'll be our first group camp of the year and we'll be updating you with more details and handing out forms at the end of September.
Please feel free to contact either Scouter Stephen or myself with any questions or concerns. We're looking forward to seeing you all on Monday!
