MIDWEST Art and Lettering Retreat
AUGUST 11 - 14, 2016
CARLETON COLLEGE in NORTHFIELD, MN
Registration opens February 1st, 2016

Needing certainty shackles my potential for the unexpected. Feeling 'I don't know' or 'let's see what happens', allows my expanded self to provide answers and solutions that may be completely serendipitous and outrageously synchronistic. When I step into the realm of ambiguity I'm really at my most powerful.   ANITA MOORIANI

EMBRACE UNCERTAINTY
. The MIDWEST Art and Lettering Retreat 2016 offers the opportunity for artists to remove those shackles of certainty. Retreat for four full days to expand yourself artistically and find some of those completely serendipitous and outrageously synchronistic answers and solutions. "Let's see what happens!"

Sleep in a single, air-conditioned room. Enjoy food made for you by the award winning Bon Appétit food service. Relax with friends who share your love of art. And above all, learn and create with the guidance of a master teacher in air-conditioned classrooms.

THREE MASTER ARTISTS will be teaching at MIDWEST Art and Lettering Retreat 2016.

Amity Parks, Diane Culhane, Bob Schmitt

Amity Parks
 - Be Fearless

Diane Culhane - Paint Your Story

Bob Schmitt - Experience the Power of the Brush

In BE FEARLESS: A WAY OF WORKING WITHOUT WORRY calligrapher Amity Parks will take you on a "risky exploration that takes away the preciousness and fear we often feel when working on a single piece." You can draw on Bob Schmitt's 50 years of oriental painting experience in his class EXPERIENCE THE POWER OF THE BRUSH. And guided by Diane Culhane in PAINT YOUR STORY you will obtain a solid beginning knowledge of using acrylic paints and mediums. Click on Workshop Choices in the navigation bar at left for additional information.

MIDWEST also offers an INDEPENDENT STUDY retreat option for anyone interested in having a private space to work on artwork of their choice in lieu of taking a class. You plan your own work schedule and join other retreat goers for meals and social times.

A SPECIAL RETREAT TREAT THIS YEAR

Amity Parks will be teaching her one-day graphite pencil lettering workshop on the day before the 2016 retreat begins: Wednesday, August 10 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at Carleton College. You do not have to be registered for the four-day retreat, nor be registered for her design class to attend this workshop. For details see our Workshop Choices page for her class "A SHARP PENCIL AND A KEEN EYE."

ALL WHO ARE INTERESTED IN THE ARTS are invited to participate in this retreat. The Diane Culhane class, “PAINT YOUR STORY” is open to anyone who has an interest in learning the basics of acrylic painting. Bob Schmitt teaches students working at all levels in "EXPERIENCE THE POWER OF THE BRUSH." You do NOT have to be a calligrapher to participate in these classes. Some calligraphy experience would be helpful for "BE FEARLESS: A WAY OF WORKING WITHOUT WORRY." Students register for one 4-day class and then stay in the selected class for the entire retreat.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A MEMBER of Minnesota’s Colleagues of Calligraphy organization to register. The cost of the retreat is the same for members and non-members.
