The Diocese of Middlesbrough has a thriving music tradition.

Our six choirs sing regularly for the liturgies at  St Mary's Cathedral; these include the Boys' Choir, Senior Girl's Choir, Junior Girl's Choir, Ladies' Schola Cantorum, Men's  Schola Cantorum and the Adult Choir. The Cathedral also benefits from a music group.

The Diocesan Choir joins with the Cathedral Choirs at all major diocesan occasions.

For information on all our musical activities please follow the links on the left.

Could your child be a Cathedral Chorister?

St Mary’s Cathedral, Coulby Newham welcomes applications from parents of  boys with treble voices aged 8-14 and girls aged 8-16 for membership of the
Cathedral Boys’ and Girls’ Choirs. Choristers rehearse each week at the Cathedral and sing a wide variety of services and concerts as well as radio broadcasts. Choristers also receive free singing tuition from an experienced vocal coach as well as tuition in music theory and listening skills at our monthly music school.

Friends of Cathedral Music Support Cathedral Scholarship Scheme

.

Friends of Cathedral Music is the foremost organisation in the UK and abroad supporting our priceless tradition of cathedral music as sung in our cathedrals, greater churches and collegiate chapels. Friends of Cathedral Music aim to increase public awareness and appreciation, encourage high standards in choral and organ music and raise money by subscriptions, donations and legacies to support choirs in need. To find out more about Friends of Cathedral Music, please visit the website at https://fcm.org.uk

We extend our grateful thanks to Friends of Cathedral Music for their generous support of our Choral Scholarship scheme which aims to assist young singers to develop their skills as singers and choral conductors. We are particularly pleased that this scheme has been an important factor in inspiring our previous scholars to go on to study music at universities and conservatoires. These young people will become the leading singers and choral directors of the future thereby ensuring the continuation of the great musical heritage of our churches and cathedrals.
