Upcoming Events & Announcements

1. The 3-day Summer SEPUP Level I PD will be held the week of August 1-5. (IAES 8/1-8/3; IALS 8/3-8/5; IAPS 8/1-8/3).  Details below in green.  Register here!

This 3-day series is intended for teachers new to teaching SEPUP at their grade level, those who missed Level I PD in the past, or anyone who needs a refresher.  Like all Level I PDs, we will go through the activities in the covered units, but the extended time of this training (3 days vs. 1 day) also gives us the opportunity to cover tips and tricks for starting the year, including journal organization, classroom and group management, supply inventory and management, an NGSS and SEPUP primer, and practice planning and prepping for activities that we are not able to include during the school year or make-up PDs.

2. Can't make Summer SEPUP PD?  Save the date for the condensed make-up session on Saturday, September 10.  Details and registration will be posted later this summer.

Professional Development

 Level I SEPUP PD

Level I PD is for teachers new to the materials at their grade level.  We will go through each activity in each unit.  Some we will do in quite a bit of depth, some we may only spend a few minutes touching on.  The PD Leaders will also go through with you the various Science and Engineering Practices of the NGSS students will engage in in each activity.  This PD is progressive, each one builds off the previous.  There will be a 3 day session in the summer or make-up session in September.  There are then 6 follow-up sessions through the year listed below. Please make sure to bring your student book, journal, and teacher's guide with you each time - if you have them.  If you are unsure if this PD is for you please email Jessica Line, jline@luc.edu, with questions.

 Level II SEPUP PD

It's back!  This is for teachers experienced with the materials at the grade level you are currently teaching - you've taught them for at least 1 full year (or have been attending Level I PDs this year).  We do not go through each activity individually but instead focus on going deeper in various areas such as assessment, analysis questions, the teacher resource section, literacy strategies, diverse learners, Science and Engineering Practices of the NGSS, etc.  There will also be ample time for teacher-to-teacher discourse as we know this is very valuable and can be a challenge when you are usually the only science teacher in your building!  If you are unsure if this PD is for you please email Jessica Line, jline@luc.edu with questions.

2016-2017 dates TBD
