nom is a new initiative at Middlebury College aimed at creating community and connecting people through food and food education. The student-run group organizes classes that seek to teach young people and those in transitional periods in their lives how to cook for themselves on a budget and acquire the independence and knowledge that comes with it. The aim, through "food mentoring," is to establish healthy eating/ cooking habits, and, for both mentors and participants, raise awareness around nutrition, current food issues, and their local communities.
nom currently works with two community partners:
Addison Central Teens (ACT): a local organization made up of teens, adults, and community members interested in teen culture, activities, and events. It provides a fun, safe, and welcoming place for teens to hang out and promotes teen contributions through programs, activities, and outreach.
Bridport Central School: a small elementary school located in Bridport, Vermont that currently runs after-school clubs for the students, varying from sports to arts, etc.
