Frank and K's D&D Material (PDF)

Tome of Necromancy, Tome of Fiends, Dungeonomicon, and Races of War

Perhaps you are one of many people who are displeased with the current state of affairs in the Dungeons and Dragons community.  There are countless books, the content of many of which are boring, bland, unresearched, unbalanced, annoying, or just plain bad.  Further, you might have noticed that there is a major imbalance between the classes.  Played optimally, those classes with full spellcasting outshine those without by a substantial margin.

Other problems might include the fact that undead aren't handled well (you can't stake vampires), feat chains don't work like they should, or whatever.  You've thrown up your hands, as there is just too much to fix to make D&D worth playing.  Or is there?

FrankTrollman and K have put together an amazing amount of information that is designed to help rectify the imbalances for players who have come to this conclusion.  If you have weighed the evidence and disagree, please don't bother with this.  So long as you're having fun, it's no big deal.  If you want some more options, then, by all means, read ahead.

Inspired by their work, I decided to put the information together in a PDF so that people could print off the information without relying on a browser's ability to print correctly, and to look pretty.

 Download the PDF (version 0.51)

For updates check http://www.tgdmb.com/viewtopic.php?t=36046.  It will be much timelier than this site.

As I haven't made any modifications to the content, just the formatting, you should address all comments regarding balance or content to the authors.  Currently, the best way to get in touch with them is to post on the message board where the content was originally published:  The Gaming Den.  They claim they'll give me an email address to link to for this purpose, but they haven't yet.

If you are interested in a html version of some of this document, some of the content was posted in a web format here: Frank and K online SRD.

If you find any typographical errors, please let me know at middendorfproject@gmail.com or morgon.kanter@gmail.com (who is more likely to make changes in a timely manner).

For those interested in examining of modifying the original LaTeX, here it is:frank_k_pdf_0.5.1.tar.gz

Currently, there are some known problems with the PDF:

  • Links.  I intend to create a pile of hyperlinks between various sections.  Eventually, I'll post a "printable" version, and one for browsing on the computer; the printable version won't have the links, so it'll print more nicely.  Maybe if I decide that it is done (and Frank and K stop publishing material), I'll see about putting this up on something like Lulu.
  • License.  I don't know what license Frank and K want to publish this under, nor do I have written permission from Frank yet regarding this document.

If you are for some reason interested in an older version of the PDF or the accompanying  LaTeX source, check out these:

Version 0.4 PDF LaTeX

Alt Version 0.4: PDF LaTeX  (I started a version that never got finished, hence the alternate, "unpublished" version of 0.4)

Version 0.3: PDF LaTeX

Version 0.2: PDF LaTeX

Version 0.1: PDF LaTeX

Other Tools:

Changelog from 0.3 -> 0.4 (initiated by Morgon Kanter)

  • Book of Gears added as an appendix
  • Addition of third party material, noteably Iameki's skill feats and Spherelock by Cielingcat
Changelog from 0.2 -> 0.3 (not necessarily exhaustive)
  • Added all the rest of the prestige classes, except Elothar (and others?)
  • Added some preview material
  • Redid the armor and feats sections
  • Linked up some more stuff
  • Reorganized the content into different sections, so Tome of Necromancy is now broken up, as is Tome of Fiends and Dungeonomicon
  • Prettied up some tables (armor, leadership notably)
