1914: Return to England

In 1914, with the outbreak of WW1, the family were sent home while leaving their father in India. Their convoy was bombed by German Zeppelin airships off Plymouth on the way home.

They returned to live in Lichfield, where Micky attended school at King Edward VI Grammar School. Subsequently they moved to Fareham and Micky attended Gosport Secondary School.

In 1924 , Grandpa retired from the Army and immediately got a job with the Home Office at the Heswall Nautical School as Headmaster.
