Goodwill Mission

Since 1968, the State of Michigan has enjoyed a sister state relationship with Shiga Prefecture in Japan. The purpose of this relationship is to unite the people of the two states in everlasting bonds of friendship and promote understanding of the people of the world. In addition to the sister state relationship, 17 cities in Michigan have sister city relationships with cities in Shiga Prefecture.

With the 50th anniversary of the Michigan-Shiga relationship underway, the 2018 Goodwill Mission from Shiga Prefecture to Michigan will conclude the year of official celebrations between the sister states. The Michigan-Shiga Sister State Board is currently seeking interested individuals to host delegates of the 2018 Goodwill Mission to Michigan.  All residents of Michigan are welcome to participate. From September 5 to September 12, 2018 a delegation of 45 individuals from Shiga will enjoy a ten-day goodwill mission to Michigan, including home-stay experiences with Michigan families.

Individuals interested in hosting for the 2018 Goodwill Mission in Michigan may complete the host family application found here.
