Friends of the Detroit River envisions an ever improving quality of life for people, plants and animals in southeast Michigan and southwest Ontario through development of a balance of grass roots advocacy and staffed programs forming an environmental group that watches and protects the Detroit River including creation of a highly visible resource center focusing on Detroit River issues, programs, research, policies and partnerships.

Grand Rapids Whitewater is a group of individuals, paddling clubs, fishermen and businesses dedicated to helping Green Grand Rapids achieve the dream of putting rapids back in the Grand for everyone’s enjoyment.

Michigan Paddling Council is a non-profit 501(c)3 umbrella organization working to facilitate communication between the various Michigan paddling clubs and the Michigan river organizations.

Michigan Heritage Water Trails catalogs and maps routes on navigable waterways such as rivers, lakes, and canals to foster an interactive historical education experience. They post historical markers on bridge crossings and have a companion guide.

Muskegon River Watershed Assembly
is dedicated to the preservation, protection, restoration, and sustainable use of the Muskegon River. www.mrwa.org

River Raisin Watershed Council is a nonprofit membership organization with a growing constituency of individuals, businesses, municipalities and community groups seeking to protect the natural resources of the watershed.

Friends of the Rouge

The Friends of the  Shiawassee River   mission is to care, to maintain and improve the water quality and habitats of the Shiawassee River watershed; share to enhance the community's appreciation and knowledge of the river, especially among youth; and to increase recreational access and responsible use of the Shiawassee River.
Friends of the St Joe River is helping Conservation Districts and other partners in Indiana and Michigan with watershed education, planning and implementation projects within the St. Joseph River Basin. http://www.fotsjr.org/

Superior Watershed Partnership is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and restoration of the rivers and watersheds of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

The Thornapple River Watershed Council strives to protect, preserve and enhance the quality, aesthetic and recreational value of the Thornapple River Watershed through education, planning and management.

Yellow Dog Watershed Preserve is an environmental organization comprised of grassroots individuals who take environmental ethics to heart. We focus on informing the public about the watershed, conducting sound science, and protecting the resources from threats like sulfide mining.

Regional Organizations

Sea Grant Michigan   promotes responsible use of our water resources through education. Lists marinas and is developing a list of paddling support facilities.

The Lake Michigan Water Tail Association is developing maps for paddling, driving, and biking around the Lake.
