Meet Michele

Michele Gribbins joined the Management Information Systems department at UIS in 2005 and has been an Online Learning & Faculty Development Specialist with the Center for Online Learning, Research & Service (COLRS) at UIS since 2012. She previously taught in the Department of Business Administration at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) and was employed by Lake Land College as a Computer Training Specialist in their Center for Business & Industry. She has a B.S. in Finance from Illinois State University, an M.B.A. from Eastern Illinois University, and has completed doctoral coursework in Business Administration (Information Systems Concentration) from UIUC. She is presently pursuing an Ed.D. in Instructional Systems Technology from Indiana University.

Michele’s research and teaching interests are centered on the fit and effectiveness of educational technologies and on maintaining academic integrity in online classes. Her research has been published in the Journal of Information Technology, the Communications of the Association for Information Systems, Electronic Markets, and the International Journal of Management Theory and Practices. She has co-authored two book chapters and has over forty presentations at international, national, and regional conferences.

At COLRS, Michele designs and delivers faculty development in theory, pedagogy, and best practices of effective online teaching and learning. She also supports and guides faculty members in their development and delivery of online courses. She is a Certified Online Learning Administrator and has been on the project team for two Massive-Open Online Courses (MOOCs) offered by UIS: One Patient-One Team: Palliative Care Approaches Across the Continuum and The Emancipation Proclamation – What Came Before, How It Worked, and What Followed. She is the Treasurer of the Illinois Council on Continuing Higher Education, and is a member of the Capitol Chapter of the Association of IT Professionals, the University Professional and Continuing Education Association, the Online Learning Consortium and the Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honor Society.
