Teachers and Students

The Friends of the Michael White Adobe recognize that the continued existence of this historic residence - the oldest in San Marino - is dependent on its value as an educational tool. We believe that it represents a truly unique opportunity - perhaps one that no other high school in America has - an on-campus history lab. This should in no way imply that the facility may be used only for history. On the contrary, we favor an interdisciplinary approach and welcome the creative imput of staff and students.

Te attached "opportunity" documents are only suggestions of ways that students and teachers might engage with the adobe. Completion of any of these tasks does not necessarily result in service learning hours, but might with proper pre-approval:

As part of San Marino High School’s 40-hour service learning requirement, a student has the option of performing meaningful service off campus during non-school hours. If a student chooses this option, no school personnel supervise him/her. It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to assure that the student is being properly supervised. Although the service will be done off campus, the student’s homeroom teacher, counselor or an administrator must approve outside service projects before they are begun. This approval is merely for the content and purpose of the project and does NOT imply any approval of the supervision arrangements for the activity. No San Marino Unified School District personnel are to be held responsible or accountable for any aspect of an outside service project undertaken by a student. Transportation to, from, or during the activity is the responsibility of the parent/guardian. The requisite forms must be filled out by a counselor or administrator prior to recieving permission.

The research module of this website may be a tremendous asset for teachers and students, especially in regard to primary source documents.
