Biography
Michael C. Tompkins, Ph.D. is an educator, consultant, and researcher in the Pittsburgh area, focusing on
Michael previously served as the Associate Dean of Business and Technology, and previous to that as the Assistant Dean, at the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) in Pittsburgh, PA.
He is a graduate of the Williamson College of Business Administration at Youngstown State University, the Donahue Graduate School of Business at Duquesne University, and Kent State University, holding degrees in Business Administration/Digital Marketing, Management, and Applied Business, respectively.
Professionally, he worked for over a decade throughout the midwest in manufacturing management in the metal casting, ceramics, industrial products, restaurant, and hospitality industries, and in retail. He has held several managerial roles, including Plant Engineer, Safety and Quality Assurance Coordinator, Plant Supervisor, Inside Sales Manager, Estimator, and Production Manager.
Most recently, Michael served as the Project and Product Development Manager at Unifrax Engineered Thermal Components in Ohio and as the Project Manager of Raw Material Integration for Global Acquisitions at PPG Industries in Pittsburgh, PA.
Michael has also spent several years in higher education, having taught courses in Business, Management, Marketing, Business Ethics, and Organizational Behavior at Eastern Gateway Community College. He also teaches courses in Professional and Business Communications at The University of Arizona Global Campus and is a contributing faculty member, course content creator, and peer reviewer for Saylor Academy - a nonprofit educational foundation - in Washington, D.C.
Michael is a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society and the American Marketing Association (AMA), where he received the PCM® (Professional Certified Marketer) credential in Marketing Management. He is also a member of the Project Management Institute (PMI) and the Academy of Management (AOM).
In his spare time, he enjoys golf, cooking, reading, film, history, and supporting Pittsburgh sports teams and the New York Knicks. He is currently a doctoral student at the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky. At UC, his work is concentrated on strategic management and business administration, and he is exploring changes in organizational commitment as it relates to virtual team management. He also provides digital marketing, management, strategy, leadership, and start-up consulting for small businesses, and manufacturing consulting for select international organizations.
