Led by five-year-old Micah Snell in his jogging stroller, this year the Micah’s Miles contingency will traverse more than 130 miles in five marathons over the upcoming four months in support of five nonprofit organizations. By season’s end, they will have run 13 marathons in all and raised more than $21,000 in three years for others.

Though the family launched the Micah’s Miles organization to support families of children with cerebral palsy, which affects Micah, last year the Snells expanded their efforts to support other groups who share their passion for improving lives, one step at a time.

“We began running marathons to focus on what we can do — not what we cannot,” explained Micah’s mom, Suzie Snell. “We quickly realized that in addition to supporting those in the CP community, we also wanted to help others, because so very many have helped us.”

Last year, for Micah’s fourth birthday, the Micah’s Miles team completed four marathons. The year before that, they notched three marathons across three states in just three months to celebrate Micah’s third birthday. This year’s marathon season includes five marathons to honor Micah’s fifth birthday, which was December 1, 2014.  “Why do we run?” dad Jeff Snell asked. “It’s all about being thankful for what you have, and making a difference wherever you can. We hope to inspire others to donate to these incredible organizations.”
