Melissa Knits

This is Gizmo, my kitty.

She wants you to visit the attached pages through the links in the text below.

She commands it of you!  So it is written, so shall it be.

I have a new site!  You can visit me at!

Knit Happens. . .

Why fight it?  Knit just happens.  In my case, I'm sitting outside on a beautiful fall day waiting for a class to start and have nothing to do with myself, so I draw out my scarf and hat, or socks, or shawl, and knit away.

The curiosity of others is often peeked, and they come over to see the wonderful projects that are being made right before their very eyes.  And thus, Knit Happens is formed.

Spin Happens Too. . .

I have recently aquired a spinning wheel that my boss let me borrow for a while.  My mom and I went to the Flock and Fiber Festival in Canby this past weekend and I got lots of beautiful roving and yarn.  It's so relaxing to sit down in front of the wheel and watch it spin as the yarn slips through your fingers and onto the bobbin.

It's been a while since I've updated my site, so I decided to give it a whole new look.  I've been up to some pretty exciting things and can't wait to start sharing them with you!  Here's a sample of what I've been up to. . .

I started out by taking one look at this massive mess of skeins and balls and decided to get organized so that I could find what I was looking for.

So here is my attempt at getting organized.  I think I did pretty well, although I would like to have something open in the future so that you can see my stash better.  But it will suffice for now.

I've also been working on sewing up some knitting needle cases.  I found a pattern at Boersma's that I really, really liked so I picked it up, picked out some fabric, and away I went.  I was really happy with how it turned out.  If you want to see the rest of the pictures, click on Knit Cases.

I've been working on a scarf for myself.  So far I've used up almost one full skein. . .it's going to be a long one!  Hopefully I will be able to knit up a matching hat and maybe even some gloves!

I recently purchased the Denise knitting needle set and I absolutely adore it!  If you haven't heard of these needles before, I would definately check them out!  They have the needles sizes 5 through 15 along with detachable cords that you can change in and out whenever you need!  There's also an extension pack that you can purchase to use if you need straight needles.

It's an awesome deal when you think of how much money you would spend on regular needles alone!  I bought the pink set, a portion of my purchase went to breast cancer research, which is always a very good cause.  There's a blue set as well.So

Matt and I went on a shopping spree in Portland.  He was so nice!  He took me to two of the many knit shops up in that area.  I found some amazing things, but decided to limit myself to items that I could not find in my home town.  The packaging at knit/purl was so great!  They wrapped up my purchase in tissue paper and put a sticker on the edge to keep it closed.  So, let's open it up and see what I got!

My other project is a hat for Matt.  Here I am modeling it.  It's a bit too long, but I think it will work out okay.  It's silver and blue and I'm working on closing up the top right now.

I would also like to mention that I work at a fabric store called Boersma's.  If you would like to learn more about this adventure, please click here.

Until we meet again, this has been a production of Melissa Knits studios.  I hope you enjoyed a gander at my projects, and check back soon for updates on my socks and future knit projects!
