System One/Wangrow

System One (SYS1) is the name of the DCC system manufactured by Wangrow Electronics.  Wangrow electronics is out of business.  NCE roots are tied to Wangrow for NCE designed the command station hardware and software.

This systems is compatible and interchangable with the NCE system in every way such as cabs and boosters. Many, but not all, of the new products made by NCE will also work with these systems offering potential for some limited expansion. Thanks to the NMRA standards, these systems will continue to work with all decoders old and new for many years to come dispite the demise Wangrow.

In this section are links to other sections with Wangrow information.

Below is the last System One manual (SYS1MAN9) released by Wangrow.

I have also included 2 reviews of the DCC system for historical sake.

WANGROW/SYS1 COMMAND STATION UPGRADE PATH.

This picture shows the Wangrow CSP01 Command Station interior.  The battery is located on the top right and need to be replaced every 5 years minimum.  The chip with the white label is the software chip or EPROM.

Since SYS1 went out of business, NCE offered a one time software upgrade to all System One users as a good faith gesture to let these customers know they are not left out.  The 2004 software upgrade adds a lot of new and valuable features and brings the system somewhat up to date.  However, NCE will NOT offer any further software upgrades for this system.

If you wish to upgrade the SYS1 system any further, you MUST do 3 things:

1) Abandon the SYS1 CSP01 command station and replace it with a NCE CS02 command station.  You can keep the SYS1 boosters you have for they will continue to work just fine.   That said, there is more to this upgrade other than just swapping the SYS1 CSP01 for  the NCE CS02 command station.

2) You must give up all of your CBB01 1/4" phone plug cab panels too!   Why?   All of NCE's newer software has removed all support for the CBB01 panels.  You must replace all of you CBB01 panels with NCE's standard Telco plug RJ12 UTP panels.  To see what the panel differences look like, go here: NCE Cab Panels  The UTP panels are less expensive than the CBB01 panels and sell for about $20 or a bit less at discount places.   This is a plug and play conversion since all of the exsiting cables you have run between CBB01 panels will work just fine with the new UTP panels.

3) You must change all the Cab cables from the 1/4" phone plug end to the standard Telco RJ12 cable type.  This is a plug and play conversion.  The Cables can be purchases from NCE.  For more information go here: Telco Buying Cables
