SOME FAVORITE AND HELPFUL LINKS
A COMPARISON OF CLASSIC CARS
AND SPIRITUAL THINGS
Pictures of cars later in this article
Other than The Lord one of our favorite things is the classic muscle cars of the 60’s and 70’s especially the Mopars (Chrysler Products) (at least it is one of my favorites and Annette tolerates it).
One thing about a classic car is that you always need to do something to it. No matter how much you do it never seems to be complete. How different this is to what we have in Christ. Once we trust Christ as our Savior we are complete in Him:
Colossians 2:10 And ye are complete in him (Christ), which is the head of all principality and power:
We really love the old classic cars, but regardless of how hard we try to preserve them they one day will pass away. What we have in Christ is eternal and will never pass away.
Hebrews 9:12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood (the blood of Christ) he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
I have found out something else about these cars: If you are not careful you will devote to much time in restoring them. Now there is not a thing in the world wrong with having a hobby, but as Christians we need to be sure that our affections are in the right place and the right place is not on earthly things:
Colossians 3:2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
Ephesians 5:15-16 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
We have stated previously that there is nothing wrong with the Christian having a hobby, but as Christians let's be sure that what we are working on is not in vain:
Philippians 2:16 Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.
1st Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
I found out about the old cars by owning 3 Mopars (Chrysler Products) at once along with one 78 Mercury Marquis (My late Dad's car).
FROM LEFT TO RIGHT:
1. 1974 Chrysler New Yorker
2. 1978 Mercury Marquis (Late Dads car)
3. 1966 Dodge Coronet 2 door hardtop
4. 1970 Dodge Coronet 2 door hardtop
The three old Mopars were sold and we bought a 2006 Hemi Charger Daytona (pictured toward bottom of page)
After I had kept the cars for quite a while and invested quite a bit of money the auto makers began to make the new generation muscle cars. Annette and I decided to sell all the Mopars, keep the Mercury for sentimental reasons, and buy a new generation muscle car. To be more accurate in the previous statement, I decided and then begged Annette into it. I couldn't belive that she would ever agree to it but she did. We purchased the Dodge Charger Daytona in March of 2007. Initially I was worried that I would regret the decision but I couldn't be happier as you can have the best of both worlds with the new generation muscle. It is very comfortable, you can get parts with no problem if needed, and of course as an added bonus you have the legendary Hemi power. This is #337 of 4000 of this color that was made in the Dodge Charger Daytona.
This has turned out to be an excellent trade for us. In spiritual things we can trade something old for something new and this also is an excellent trade.
2nd Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
