MEXICAN TALAVERA Ceramic Flower Planter Pot 5" [Vibrant Hand Painted Colors]
Talavera is a type of majolica earthenware, a white and glazed type of ceramic. Although the Spaniards introduced this type of pottery, ironically the term Talavera is used much more in Mexico than in Talavera de la Reina, Spain. Each piece is a laborious affair between the artisan and carefully selected clay! Historically The color blue was to be used on the finest ceramic. This was so because the mineral pigments needed to produce this color were very expensive. The customer could then easily distinguish the quality of fine ceramic from one of lesser quality. Even though Spain introduced Talavera to MEXICO it was Mexican artistry and creativity that truly dressed TALAVERA. NOTE: Handmade items such as this are entirely one of a kind. Slight imperfections only confirms the originality and authenticity of the piece. Please check measurements to give you an idea of the actual size. Bright white spots are due to flash photography.
