Coaches,

The tournament will be played under USA Softball modified rules. Bat roster and free substitution.

The tournament directors reserve the right to change the tournament format, time limits, or other aspects so that the tournament may be completed. Teams will be refunded money according to the refund schedule for any games lost due to format changes because of weather or any other unforeseen circumstance.

Schedules and results will be posted on tournamentasa.com but the brackets on-site will be the most current and will serve as the master schedule once the tournament starts. 

ABC, Kirkwood and Woodlands Sports Park prohibits alcoholic beverages, soft drinks, or food to be brought into the ballpark. NO COOLERS EXCEPT WATER FOR PLAYERS ~ Please inform your players and parents.

Any weather issues/rainout info will be provided via text to the cell phone numbers that the coaches provided on the registration form and be posted on the tournament site on tournamentasa.com.

TOURNAMENT RULES:

USA Softball Rules - Playing rules will be modified USA Softball rules: 

Teams will have the option to bat roster (8 or more) and have free substitution. 

You can have courtesy runners for the pitcher and catcher only. This runner will be the player who made the last out. If a player gets injured you may use a courtesy runner, but again this runner must be the player who made the last out. The injured player CANNOT return to the game and their at bat in the lineup WILL NOT be an out.

If you choose to bat 9, and you have substitutes on the bench, you will play by ASA rules and must use substitutes as runners or report them each time as a courtesy runner and follow the USA softball Courtesy Runner Rule. All substitutions will be as outlined in the USA Softball rule book.

Game times – Tournament Directors will determine grace periods for game times. Teams must be ready to begin play at 15 minutes prior to their scheduled game time. Teams need to be ready to play at the conclusion of the game preceding.

Time Limits – In pool play and elimination rounds, tournament directors may set time limits from 75 - 90 minutes, and teams will finish the inning. Check with TD for details. Game times for all games start at the conclusion of the ground rules conference at home plate. A new inning starts when the last out was made the previous inning. Time limit for Championship games may be up to 1 hour 30 minutes.

Pool Play – Games may end in a tie. After pool play, each team will be seeded in their respective age bracket.

If two or more teams have identical won/loss records, the following tie-breakers will apply:

1. The team that won in the head-to-head game(s) with the other tied team(s).

2. The least amount of runs allowed by each team tied during all pool play games.

3. The amount of runs each team scored.

4. Toss of a coin among tied teams following pool play.

Elimination Games – A winner must be determined. If the score is tied after seven innings or after 1 hour - 15

minutes has expired and the inning is completed, the next inning will begin with international tie breaker rules in

accordance with USA Softball rules.

Insurance / Proof of Age – All teams should have proof of liability insurance, we do not collect these but you

should have it if needed. Each manager must have and show proof of players’ ages at any time if asked to do so.

Run Rule Limits – Fifteen (15) runs after three innings, twelve (12) runs after four innings, or eight (8) runs after

five innings, will be in affect in all games including the Championship game.

Protests – Only player eligibility protest will be considered and should be taken to the tournament director.

Team Awards – First and Second place teams in each age division will receive individual awards.

Determining Team Placement in the Event of a Weather-Related, Incomplete Tournament:

In the event that the tournament is shortened by weather, the following criteria will be used in determining the

placement of teams:

A complete game will be 3 innings or 2.5 innings if the home team is ahead.

Single Elimination bracket

1) If no bracket games have occurred, the same tie breakers set forth in determining seeding after pool play will be

applied to all teams to determine placement.

2) If some bracket games have occurred, placement will be determined between all teams still alive in the bracket

(without regard to where they are in the bracket) using the below tiebreaker rules as criteria.

Double Elimination bracket

1) If no bracket games have occurred, the tie breakers set forth in determining seeding after pool play will be

applied to all teams to determine placement.

2) If some bracket games have occurred, placement will be determined between all teams still alive in the winner’s

bracket (without regard to where they are in the bracket) using the below tiebreaker rules as criteria.

Tiebreaker Rules: In the event of a tie, the following will be used to break the tie, either for determining the order of

finish in bracket play, or during pool play - for the purposes of seeding into a bracket. For ties where there are three or

more teams involved, once the initial tie is broken, the remaining tied teams will begin again at “a)" to determine which

team will be next.

a) head to head, if all teams remaining have played each other.

b) average runs allowed (all games played during the tournament – pool play or bracket play – not both)

c) average runs scored (all games played during the tournament – pool play or bracket play – not both)
