Social Justice in the Classroom ItAG Public Sharing

posted Jun 30, 2012, 12:03 PM by Jen Sauer
On June 24th, members of the Social Justice in the Classroom Inquiry to Action Group (ItAG) shared what they had learned and created from the 6-week May-June study group.  Reports included social justice lessons for Asian American history month for younger and older students, a multicultural calendar approach to teach 6th grade astronomy, a musical business space to inspire students to learn from instructors and themselves, pros and cons of starting a school garden and starting a democratic after-school program, and a science teacher's innovative and democratic teaching framework.  The audience engaged in thoughtful constructive criticism that helped the educators better think about their actions in the classroom.  ItAG members also shared with the audience their first edition of the Social Justice in the Classroom Resource Booklet which is on sale for a $5 donation to MAPS.  Participants hope to do a similar ItAG in the fall.  If you are interested in joining the ItAG, email MAPS: mapsgeorgiaeducation@gmail.com
