Around fifteen folks gathered at the local community bookstore, Charis Books,to hear us read from and discuss the coauthored book chapter "Exposing the Myths of a Corporate City" in Assault on KIds: How Hyper-accountability, Corporatization, Deficit Ideologies, and Ruby Payne are Destroying our Schools. Mary Anne Smith and Jennifer Sauer shared their experiences with teacher activism and MAPS. Gloria Slaugther, also a MAPS member talked about the research she has done in public education. Paul McLennan from the Atlanta Public Sector Alliance and Dr. Richard Lakes from the Educational Policy Studies Department at GSU spoke about the privatization of the public sector, specifically about transportation and health care issues impacting the poor, and about the rise of charter schooling in the metro area.
