Some supposedly rare people seem to feel a direct connection with divinity. I don't think it has to be rare, but I think people often don't how they cover their own eyes and turn from their own hearts. My feeling is that there is no room for avoidance in genuine intimacy, but at times, there is this feeling of duality--that God is always in touch as well as out of range, that looking towards God may show little more than the extent of my vision and the breadth of this world. This is a good poem to take one line at a time.
You are always with me
as my horizon.
Not some place on this earth,
not some other place,
You invite the whole of my vision.
You change as I change,
only near when I look
very careful and close.
We fit too well to allow space
for false intimacy
between us.
