Mersey Marauders awarded Grow the Game Grant

posted Nov 13, 2009, 4:17 PM by Mersey Marauders   [ updated Jun 20, 2016, 12:07 AM ]

Marauders are delighted to announce the that we have been successful in our application for Grow the Game funding provided Football Foundation, the countries largest sporting charity.

The Grow the Game scheme is designed to increase participation in our national game amongst under-represented groups by helping clubs to meet the essential costs of starting new teams. It is funded by the Premier League and The FA and delivered by the Football Foundation.

The long term strategy of the Marauders is to follow in the footsteps of many GFSN teams who engage in multiple leagues . As part of our development we hope to engage with new teams kicking off with our friendly against the Liverpool Echo on the 2nd July hosted by Liverpool Football Clubs Academy.

As part of the award the Marauders will train two coaches. We are keen to welcome new members to the club. Anyone is welcome to come to our training sessions. For more information Contact Us here.

Mersey Finish 4th in GFSN Division 2

posted Nov 13, 2009, 4:16 PM by Mersey Marauders   [ updated Jul 11, 2016, 3:01 PM ]

Mersey Marauders finished mid table in Division 2 in a consistent if not spectacular season. Going into our final game we needed to beat Titans and/or better the score that Village Manchester achieved against Cardiff Dragons. That was never really on the cards although a late equaliser ensured that Mersey finished having won 2 lost 2 and drawn 2 games ion the 15/16 season, albeit the draw against Wolves wasn't counted after their withdrawal from the league.

Highlights included an excellent 2-1 home win over Village Manchester although the defeat against Leftfooter's away made promotion a tough challenge. Of course Mersey fielded a much stronger team the day after to book themselves into the GFSN cup final on the 29th May! Well done to promoted sides Yorkshire Terriers and Village Manchester and congratulations to Division 1 Champions Birmingham Blaze. We looK forward to welcoming Leicester and Nottingham next season along with the Titans, Footers and Cardiff again.

The game held at Mossley Hill Athletic Club featured a Mersey XI against a Bernie XI and raised £220 for Bliss a charity working to provide the best possible care and support for all premature and sick babies and their families. Well done to Bernie and everyone who played.

The game itself was a real thriller which finished 8-4 to the Bernie XI. leo Kramessi and Ryan McBride netted twice for the Marauders. See our match reports for more details.
