Welcome to Mehrnaz Tavan's Personal Homepage

I am a PhD candidate in Wireless Information Network Laboratory (WINLAB) in  Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Rutgers University, under joint supervision of Prof. Roy Yates and Prof. Dipankar Raychaudhuri. Before joining Rutgers, I received my Master of Science degree in Communications Engineering from the Department of Signals and Systems at Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden under supervision of  Prof. Erik Agrell. I obtained my Bachelor of Science  degree in Electrical Engineering with focus on Telecommunications from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering  at the University of Tehran

My research interests are
  • Communication system design
  • Internet of Things
  • Computer networks
  • Software-defined networking
  • Content-caching systems
  • Internet architecture
  • Physical layer analysis
  • Information theory, Network coding
  •  Mobile ad hoc networks, Vehicular networks
  • Optimization techniques
  • Machine learning, Data mining
  • Social networks
My skill set broadly spans the areas of computer networks,  information theory, wireless and social networking, machine learning, digital communications, optimization techniques, and signal processing.

Currently I am working as a research assistant in an NSF-sponsored research team made up of eight faculty members and more than nine graduate students. The main focus of this research team is designing various aspects of MobilityFirst Future Internet Architecture. MobilityFirst is a clean slate architecture for the future Internet which supports mobility in the network layer. My contribution to the project involves design and optimization of cross-layer protocols to support high mobility with a particular focus on vehicular use cases.
