I am also an experienced editor specializing in academic work in the humanities. I know from experience how challenging the experience of writing an article or dissertation is. Sometimes what you need most is a fresh pair of outside eyes. My goal as an editor is to help you organize your thoughts and write clearly so that your ideas shine.
I offer two kinds of editing:
Developmental Editing
Developmental editing looks at your piece of writing as a whole. I'll help you to hone a strong argument, organize your ideas more clearly, and identify gaps in your support. Developmental writing is ideal when you already have a complete draft but feel stuck trying to move forward. I'll read through your draft and provide you with written feedback, and we can also meet virtually to discuss your writing and develop a plan for next steps.
Copyediting
Copyediting is line-by-line revision to make sure that your writing is correct, clear, and polished. I'll address sentence structure, word choice, grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Copyediting should occur close to the end of the writing process, when your ideas are largely settled and you're getting ready to submit. I'll use track changes to make corrections right in your document.
