I am a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Terrestrial Magnetism, Carnegie Institution of Washington. My research combines experimental petrology, numerical modeling, and state-of-the-art geochemical analyses to study volcanoes on the Earth, the Moon, and Mars.

In 2019, I will be building a Planetary Volcanism Laboratory at the University of Maryland, College Park. Let me know if you'd like to collaborate! I am gradually migrating to a new website here.

  • What factors control volcanic eruptive style on the Earth and other planetary bodies?
  • How fast does magma cool within the volcanic conduit? How fast does magma rise from source to surface?
  • Can we link petrologic markers of magma ascent to the seismic record at active volcanoes?
  • How did a mugearite form on Mars?

  • I made it to DC! Today is my first day on the Carnegie campus, where I'll be measuring water in meteorites!

  • I've accepted a tenure-track assistant professor position at the University of Maryland, College Park! I will be starting at UMD in September 2019. Before I start at UMD, I'm going to spend a year at the Carnegie Institution of Washington as a DTM postdoc fellow.

  • On March 7th, I gave the Geodynamics Seminar at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory. My talk was about the solubility and diffusivity of water in lunar basalt.

January 2016

  • I've moved to Columbia University, New York, to begin a Lamont-Doherty Postdoctoral Fellowship. I'll be working with Terry Plank to constrain magma ascent rates and thermal histories in the Aleutian arc.
