Delegates staying at the residences should report to the Nobel Halls, 400 Circle Road, Stony Brook, NY. There is signage up throughout campus directing guests to that location. Welcome to the web site of 1st International Conference on Mechanics of Composites (MECHCOMP2014). This conference intends to bring forward the best research and applications on composite materials and structures. The conference has the support of Composite Structures, an International Journal of Elsevier.

Venue: Stony Brook University (Long Island, NY State, USA) )

Stony Brook and the surrounding villages are quiet,  beaches nearby. If delegates want to go north, they can take the Port Jefferson/Bridgeport Ferry and then the train to Boston. On the South Shore delegates can go to Atlantic Ocean beaches or visit the famous Hamptons. For those who prefer to go west to New York City, the Long Island Railroad provides convenient transportation.

Stony Brook University can be reached by car (around 1 ½ hours to New York City), or by Long Island Railroad, via a train connection from JFK Airport to Jamaica Station or from New York City. The train stop is  adjacent to the SB campus.

The prices of accommodation are very reasonable, hotels and students dormitories have already been blocked for the conference. Details will be given later. 
We will organise several tours to NY and museums, Long Island Vineards and Hamptons Bays, as well as Port Jefferson and Ferry Trip to Connecticut.

Conference Topics

The conference is organised as a series of parallel Thematic Sessions, with a list of tentative topics given below.

Oral presentations will be given 15-20 minutes, including questions.

The Keynote/Plenary talks will be given 30/45 minutes.

POSTER session WILL NOT occur.

Refund Policy: Cancellations before April 15,2014, 175,00 euro will be retained. After April 15, no refund.

Publication fee

If you cannot participate at the conference, a fee of 250,00 euro per abstract must be paid in order to have your abstract at the conference proceedings. The proceedings book will be sent, after the conference, to the indicated address. Deadline for payment of publication fee is 1st April 2014.


A number of hotel and dormitories rooms have already been blocked.  Expected prices range from 69 USD/person (single occupancy), 56.25 USD/person (double occupancy) at the campus residence halls, up to 150 USD in the hotels (single or double occupancy), plus local taxes (around 12%).

The rooms blocked must be booked from the Travel Agency that is the Conference Partner, through their registration website.

Submission of abstracts

Submissions of Abstracts is very easy, you just need to insert a small text in a text box (max 4000 characters, no figures, no tables):

step 2: fill your title, names, affiliation and your abstract (max 4000 characters); 

Step 3: choose the Session in which you feel your abstracts fits best. 

In case you are experiencing some problems submitting your abstract, and you receive this message:

"Invalid file extension. Extensions allowed"

When you submit the abstract: you cannot copy/paste from word, because of embedded formatting of Microsoft Word. 

However, it works if you copy/paste from NOTEPAD (windows) or TEXEDIT (MAc)

It also works well if you type directly into the text box

The deadline for submission of abstracts is EXTENDED TO OCTOBER 30, 2013.

The language of communication at the Conference will be English, and all abstracts must be written in clear English. 

Accepted abstracts will be collected together and published ONLINE as the Proceedings of the 1st International Conference on Mechanics of Composites. 

The authors may also wish to submit a full-length paper (max 20 pages) using the format suggested in the Composite Structures journal. The submission of the full-length paper is optional, and should be sent by email before July 1st, 2014.   Delegates can participate in the conference without a full-paper. After the conference, some papers will be selected and invited to submit an extended paper to Composite Structures (an Elsevier’s Journal-Impact Factor 2.231 - Year 2012).
