District Conference Reflections

posted Oct 26, 2018, 1:57 PM by Ken Schmidt   [ updated Oct 26, 2018, 1:57 PM ]

Thanks to our delegates, Brian P, Lois S, Ron A, and Lynne G. for serving this year.  Lynne has written some reflections to share with you:

“I was blessed to be able to represent Mechanicsburg Church of the Brethren, along with Lois S, Brian P, and Ron A, in September at District Conference.  Here are just a few reflections from the conference…

·         I was reminded of how many ministries our District and denomination are supporting from Camp Eder to Children’s Aid Society to the Truck Stop Ministries.    So many folks using their special gifts to serve the Lord in so many varied capacities.

·         We received an update on the post-hurricane support provided by the Brethren Disaster Ministries and I learned that this ministry continues assisting folks in rebuilding for years after a hurricane.   I learned that the District has financial support available for folks who are willing to go on a work camp to support rebuilding efforts.

·         I was astonished to learn of all of the places that the Church of the Brethren has missions… from Congo to Venezuela and lots of places in between!

·         The breakout session on how to reconnect with “lost sheep” of the church was enlightening.

·         Hearing the personal faith journeys of Pastor Linda T. and Pastor Traci R, as they reflected on Susquehanna Valley Ministries and the role that the organization has played in their lives was special in many ways.

Thanks for the opportunity, Lynne G”

UPCOMING EVENTS

Attention all Bakers…the time is approaching. Once again, the Mechanicsburg Church of the Brethren will be taking part in the Cookie Collection for Carlisle Truck Stop Ministry Inc. Last year, our church contributed close to 200 bags of cookies to the effort and the Witness Team would like to see that matched or exceeded. A sign-up sheet will be posted in the Narthex asking to contribute cookies toward this worthy cause in the upcoming weeks. Reminders will also be posted in upcoming November bulletins.  The cookies should be dropped off at a designated table just outside Spangler Hall December 6th, 7th and 8th.  The Sr. and Jr. High groups will be packaging them on the 9th. Let’s make the holidays a little more joyous for those traveling during the holidays.

Your help lifts others up! It is because of you that our guests garner the skills and certification to be lifted back on their feet again. Ten students in our Stability and Workforce Development program received their forklift certification. The training included information on safety and best practices when using the equipment. The students had lots of hands on practice and received their certification after successfully completing all requirements. Thank you for your support.
