Compelling Visions Process

posted Jan 28, 2018, 3:17 PM by Ken Schmidt   [ updated Aug 30, 2018, 2:26 PM ]

As summer gives way to fall, the process launched at the 2018 Annual Conference to help the denomination discern God’s call and develop a compelling vision to guide us into the future is moving into a new phase. Shaped by the conversations that took place at Annual Conference, the Compelling Vision Process Team has designed a two-hour event to engage members in deeper conversation around God’s call for us as a church.

Compelling Vision process begins

These conversation events have already taken place in the Southern Plains and Michigan districts, and the Process Team is working with district executives to schedule additional events in multiple locations across the denomination. The next scheduled conversations will take place at the Missouri/Arkansas District conference at the Windemere Conference Center in Roach, Mo., the weekend of Sept. 14-15; at Mount Morris Church of the Brethren in the Illinois/Wisconsin District on Sept. 16 (with two additional events to follow in the district in October); and four locations throughout Southern Pennsylvania District the weekend of Sept. 29-30. Districts will be publicizing all scheduled events as plans are finalized.

Everyone is invited and encouraged to participate in an event. In preparation, please: pray for the church and the Spirit’s guidance as we move through this process; visit the Compelling Vision website, and read about the Compelling Vision process (especially if you were not at Annual Conference and are unfamiliar with it); reflect on scriptures that inform our ministry and life together as the body of Christ; and bring a Bible and, if possible, a smart phone, tablet, or laptop to the event.

—Rhonda Pittman G, an ordained minister from Minneapolis, is chair of the Compelling Vision Process Team.

December 10

All women are invited to attend these informal meetings to chat, knit and have compassion for others.

Help is available if you would like to learn to knit or crochet and yarn, patterns and needles are always available.  Come out and learn a new skill while giving of yourself to others.

All are welcome to attend. We meet the second and fourth Mondays of each month.

Beginners are welcome and will be helped to start a simple project.

Any questions, please call Fran W .

May God Bless all of you.

The knitting needles were busy over the summer.  I would say they were clicking along like mad.  Here are the latest figures.  We donated 32 baby hats, 11 baby blankets and 8 sweaters to Harrisburg Hospital.  We donated 45 lap robes to the Wounded Warriors Association.  We also donated 8 hats and 10 sweaters to World Vision for their Knit for Kids project.

Our thanks goes out to Judy P. who donated all our yarn and to our knitters who spend time knitting to help others.

The knitting group meets the second and fourth Monday of each month at 1:00 p.m. in the church library.  We have patterns, needles and lots of yarn for anyone interested in knitting for charity.

Please contact Fran W. if you would like to participate in any way or would like to learn to knit or crochet.  Your efforts will help keep someone warm and cozy.  MAY GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU!

Card Making Project

posted Dec 1, 2014, 8:00 PM by Ken Schmidt   [ updated May 2, 2018, 5:48 PM ]

Our group of four have decided to discontinue the recycling card project.  Our card recycling project began in 2003.  It has provided good fellowship and has generated $1,788.00 since 2003.

June M. was our expert gluer for many years. We appreciate your contributing the cards through the years so that we could create new ones!

Recently, our sales have decreased, probably due to the availability of reasonably priced cards at stores like Dollar Tree and Dollar General.

We’ll continue selling the cards in the back gathering area while the supply lasts.  We would be happy to share the leftover cards and envelopes with those who could use them for crafting or art projects.

Please see Jean R, Harriet B, Rita R, or Nancy S. if you could use these materials.

We plan to officially end the project by the time of the Yard Sale in August.  In the meantime, keep buying!

Thanks for your support!

Quilting

posted Nov 4, 2014, 2:38 PM by Ken Schmidt   [ updated Aug 30, 2018, 2:09 PM ]

Our Quilters Group meets every Wednesday Morning at 9am in the Choir Room.

Thanks to our quilters for donating 2 quilts that were sold at the Brethren Home auction. One quilt was the “flower garden pattern” hand pieced by Lucy C. and was chosen as the volunteer quilt last year.  It sold for $400.

The second quilt was an original design created by Phyllis P. and sold for $100.

The quilters would like to encourage others to join the group. They meet Wednesday Mornings at 9:00 am in the choir room.  Beginners are welcomed to come and learn how to quilt and laugh.

Caregivers Support Group

posted Sep 18, 2014, 5:29 PM by Ken Schmidt   [ updated Aug 24, 2018, 9:57 AM ]

Meetings are held the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 1:00 PM in the Church Library.

The group's aim is to enrich the care-giving experience as we open our ears and hearts to others during difficult times in
the life of a caregiver.  They meet monthly in an effort to provide an opportunity to grow in tolerance, patience,
compassion, and understanding the limitless power of love, as we value the gift of care-giving.

If you are or have been a caregiver or know of someone who would like to encourage, support, share helpful hints and give
hope to others on their care-giving journey - this is the support group for you.  We meet in a relaxed atmosphere where you
can talk freely with other caregivers sharing your thoughts, fears and apprehensions and know you are not alone.

For more information, please contact the Church Office at 717.766.8880.

Group Moderators are Lois S, Janie D, and Fran W.
