The Susquehanna Valley Ministry Center is sponsoring an educational event titled:

What Every Christian Should Know About Islam”

on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the Mechanicsburg Church of the Brethren from 9am to 3:30pm.  Registration begins at 8:30am.  This event is designed to increase awareness of Islam using a Christian approach based on truth, fairness and accuracy.  The presenter is George P., Professor of Theology and Mission at Messiah College and a member of Mechanicsburg Church of the Brethren.  The goals include:
  1. To provide a biblical assessment of Islam,
  2. To understand how the history of Muslim-Christian relations affect Christian witness among Muslims today, and
  3. To reflect on biblical approaches to Christian witness that overcome fear and hatred, and which foster love for our Muslim neighbors (as Jesus taught).
Cost for this event is $50.  Three or more members of the same church may register for a discounted rate of $35.
Registration forms are posted on the bulletin board across from the mailboxes.

From the Church Development & Revitalization Commission

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

You may recall that West Shore interim pastor, Ed Robbins, shared an impassioned plea with the 2013 District Conference delegate body.  That plea was a call from your brothers and sisters at the West Shore Fellowship to join with the District Church Development and Revitalization Commission in our efforts to reach the West Shore area.  We asked the delegates to go home and tell their congregations about this initiative, and to expect a letter from DCRC, on behalf of the West Shore church.  This is that letter.

We are asking you to search among your members and see if there are those who would be willing to make a three –year commitment to full participation in the life and ministry of the West Shore congregation.  We are asking for three years because it is our belief that this is the minimum length of time needed for our outreach efforts to begin to bear steady fruit, and we want to be sure that the work is progressing well before people may choose to return to their home congregations.  We are looking for Christians who are not afraid to try new ideas and approaches, who are willing to work hard alongside the West Shore brothers and sisters, and most of all, those who sense God calling them to this work.  We want all kinds of people with all kinds of gifts and talents because we are trusting the Father to weld us into one unified body of believers.

We are asking in faith, for a minimum of 25-30 persons from throughout the District to make that step in faith and come join the sisters and brothers at West Shore COB.  We would like to have responses back to this letter no later than March 29, 2014, since the plan is to officially launch this effort of Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014 with a service of praise and dedication.  When you as congregations have determined the number and names of interested persons, you may pass the information along to the district office or to the CDRC, and they will keep us informed.

Thank you, Brothers and Sisters in Christ’s mission, and may God bless you for your willingness to help the Kingdom of God move forward on the West Shore.

 -In Christ,
