Every year we participate in the state wide voting for the California Young Reader Medal Award (CYRM). The CYRM is one of the few major awards where the winner is picked by children. We read the picture books as read-alouds in the library. Voting is a festive occasion complete with ballot box and official voting stickers. Our students enjoy seeing how their picks line up with the other children from across the state. Additionally, independent readers can also participate in the intermediate chapter book category. These students read the nominated books on their own and then vote for their favorite. Ballots will be available in the library in March and are due by the end of the month.
