Early Autumn 2012 Photos Taken in September/October

Early Autumn 2012

October 9, 2011 - 1:00 - 3:00 - Sunny - 75 Degrees
This walk was focused on the colors of fall.  Reds were few but the yellows, oranges, golds, and greens  were spectacular in their own right.  The slide show starts with a view of Herm's Rock, from there the girls and I headed to the Highbanks.  We worked our way to Lisa's Rock on Lisa's Way for our drink and rest, then on to Ice House and west toward home.  Echo and Brook both concur that it was a great day for a walk.

October 2011 - Fall color walk with Lisa

October 9, 2010 - 11:00 - 1:00 - Sunny - 67 Degrees
It was a beautiful fall day so Lisa put the orange vests on the dogs and headed across the road to check
out the food plots.  She started at the South Swamp plot near Dave's Blind and headed past East Swamp
and up the big hill.  After passing Hourglass she headed north to Icehouse where she turned west and in
succession visited Spinetingler, Football Field, Twin Pines, and the Rye Patch.  In an effort to leave no plot
undisturbed she headed to Cherry Tree before backtracking to North Swamp where she peeked inside the new ground blind.  Along the way she spied a kayaker at the clay bank.  Lisa ended her walk with a quick trip to the summer house before taking her final photos from the main house's backyard.

June 12, 2010 - 11:00 - 2:00 Cloudy - 72 Degrees
School is out for summer - let the walks begin!  Today Lisa set out for Coe Creek with Echo and Brook
tagging along.  She left the property heading west down the old trail hitting the creek where the old foot
bridge once made crossing the creek much easier than it is today.  From there she headed upstream
sometimes along the creek and sometimes along the ridge above the creek.  Along the way she came
across many interesting trees she could not resist photographing.  Upon reaching the Northwest corner
of our property she left the creek and headed to the Rye Patch food plot.  Walking south toward home
she turned east and headed behind and eventually around the swamp, through the pines to the farm house.

April 4, 2010 - 11:00 - 1:00 - Partly Cloudy - 55 Degrees
With the great early spring weather and new walking companion Lisa is ready for a new season full of walks.  This walk included Brook, Chris' new 1/2 Lab 1/2 Brittany puppy.  Lisa and Brook headed to Log Jam then onto Sand Hole and First Hole.  Of course they had to stop at each one to play a little.  Lisa and Brook then headed upstream to the state campground.  Once there Lisa realized Brook was wearing out so reluctantly they headed back up the trail to the pine trees and back home.

March 6, 2010 - 11:00 - 3:00 - Sunny - 35 Degrees
Today's walk started past the barn, over the frog pond, left at the "Y" and to the ridge at clay bank. From there Lisa headed west off the property to Coe Creek.  When she reached the opening she turned left and headed for the river and the mouth of Coe Creek.  When she reached the creek she headed upstream and followed the creek all the way to the old bridge road.  Once there she left the creek and headed back toward Meadowbrook property, stopping to remember the pine tree Norm always sat under to have a cigarette.  She reached the opening where she picked up her track and followed her tracks back home.  If the warm weather continues this could be the last snowshoe of the year.

 February 20, 2010 - 12:00 - 3:30 pm - Sunny - 32 Degrees
Lisa started west down the road and over the bridge where she turned right and began following the river downstream.  When she reached the area directly across the river from the high clay bank she was surprised to see an abandoned(?) campsite consisting of a couple of  homemade lean-tos filled with straw, a bench and some firewood.  Continuing downstream to the State 40 campground she came across the remnants of another lean-to right near the waterfalls.  She continued into the park to the split rail fence where she stopped to make a snowman. Saying good-bye to the snowman her plan was to continue along the river a while longer.  It was then her snowshoe broke and she was forced to head on foot out the old road in from 6 mile road.  She was very happy to reach the gate for she knew she had reached the road and the rest of the trip home would be much less strenuous.  She turned left and followed the road home.

January 16, 2010 - 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm - Partly Cloudy - 30 Degrees
Lisa started west down the road and over the bridge along with Molly, a friend's dog she was babysitting.
She made her way to the ridge over looking the Bridge Hole before continuing along the high ridge past
Old Maid's Hole and arriving at the back side of Stump Hole.  From there she headed cross country
reaching the ridge above the First Hole on the property.  There she took pictures looking downstream
to Sand Hole as well as upstream to the State land.  Not liking to backtrack she then headed out to
Saddler Road and back to 6 Mile Road where she turned right, pausing at the bridge to look up and
downstream.  She finished her walk by heading to the summer house, past the biffy, up the hill, and
ended up with one last look at the river before arriving back home.

January 10, 2010 - 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm - Partly Cloudy - Windy - 23 Degrees
Lisa started from the basement and headed to the deer blind south of the house where she stopped for
a picture.  From there she headed down to the Log Jam to take a more few pictures.  She headed back
up the hill and on to Sand Hole before walking along the swamp ridge to the east.  When she hit the
property line she headed south and back home.

January 9, 2010 - 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm - Sunny - 21 Degrees
Lisa started past  the barn, over the frog pond, left at the first fork and headed toward cherry tree.
She took a short detour to the top of the high clay bank before continuing past the cherry tree blind
over the rye patch hill to Carey's road.  After passing twin pines she veered south to go on the south
side of the fence row pines before hitting the road below Ice House.  She continued south through
the woods past Rob's Blind, through the pine trees and down the big hill.  Walking the road south
of the swamp she noticed much deer activity in the Orchard food plot before passing Dave's blind
and arriving at the farmhouse.  See her route on the first slide below.

 January 3, 2010 - 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm - Cloudy - 15 Degrees
Lisa started behind the farmhouse east through the pine trees past Dave's blind to the end of the
swamp and up the big hill.  Notice the sled tracks where Kathy, Todd, Kelly, Michael, and Susan
went sledding over Christmas.  She continued past Rob's blind to Ice House blind where she stopped
and lit the heater while taking a break.  She then turned west and went along the ridge through the
woods to Spine Tingler blind where she again took a short break.  She continued west through the
woods and down to the valley road.  When she reached Norm's blackberry patch she went up the
hill just far enough to take a picture of the blind at Rye Patch before returning home past the frog
pond and to the barnyard.  That is where she photographed the deer rub on a sumac just next to the
wildflower garden.  She ended her walk by feeding the birds.  See her route on the first slide below.

Return to this page often.  We will continue to post pictures of Lisa's walks throughout the year.   You will be able
to have a little touch of Meadowbrook through the seasons.
