Common Sense Media has just begun to release their Grades 9-12 curriculum and Parent/Family resources will be aligned with lessons. We will be embedding the curriculum into this site as materials are released and we will be working throughout the 2011-2012 school year to structure the high school curriculum into our school community.
High School parents are encouraged to become familiar with the Common Sense Media website and their existing information and resources. Throughout the year we will highlight topics and seek to engage high school students and families on important digital literacy, citizenship and safety issues.
At the start of the school year, one resource we would like to encourage all students and their parents to go over together is the Family Media Agreement. This document helps outline important aspects of our digital lives. It is a framework that families can use to build communication and trust when it comes to the role and impact that digital technologies on our families and in our personal lives.
Starting in November we will begin a series of events, engagements & informational programming via our website, the local cable-access channel (Time Warner CH. 5), and here at the high school. Our hope is to begin building a partnership with families that will help make technology use a healthy and productive part of the culture in our community. Please check back in November as we get things rolling and take time to explore Common Sense Media in advance.
