With winter fast approaching and shortened days, a Hellfire meet was the ideal place to take in the last of the summer sun. Six of us met at the usual spot with great anticipation for the day ahead. Arriving at the base parking in Du Toitskloof we all hiked up to the beckoning Hellfire crags. We started climbing sport routes, where we were later joined by three more friends, two of whom headed on to a five start trad route located on the far right of the crags. There was no rush to pack in routes and all shared a relaxed climbing day, with the weather playing along mostly. It was a sunny day with a few clouds approaching from the North West. One braver sole among us even managed to overcome her Trials and Tribulations (20) in the Pit of Despair while being cheered on by the peanut gallery. Although most of the group had to leave at 15h00 that afternoon, three of us remained (a Fearless Leader, the Nut-Picker and a Photographer) to try out one of the single pitch trad routes. A “scorcher” of a 18 and a perfect close to a great day of climbing. And we still made it down to the cars before dark.
