Nine of us braved the February heat for a hike above the Eikenhof Dam. There was a slight breeze to keep us cool as we ascended the track overlooking the Wesselsgat Canyon. Once over the neck in the Keeroms River Valley we lost the breeze and stopped for a refreshing swim at the waterfall. Due to lack of shade we moved on to find a lunch spot down the valley. From there it was a long, hot walk back to the cars. The decline of the forestry industry in the Western Cape has robbed us of many a shady resting place. Bobby realised this and begged me for the car keys before reaching the high point. The rest of the party carried on with a 100% survival rate at the end of the day.
