Once a non-member has participated in three hiking or climbing trips organized by the Section, he or she qualifies for membership. On submitting the application form, required membership fee, and once-off joining fee, the management committee will consider the application. If nothing negative can be brought up against the applicant, membership is granted and the person can then enjoy all the privileges of Mountain Club membership. The once-off admin cost of a membership application (which includes a nationally valid MCSA membership card) is R80.00.
The Free State Section has the following categories of membership (fees are as determined at the 2014 AGM):
Fees are determined annually at the AGM (held at the beginning of the year) and must be paid by new members before or on the 30th of April, failing which, their membership will be suspended.
New members joining throughout the year pay the same amount. However, members joining in the last three months of the year, will be exempted from additional membership fees for the following year.
