Neil McLachlan works in music, acoustic design and auditory neuroscience. After designing the internationally renowned Federation Bells, he has designed a new ensemble of harmonic bells, harmonic gongs and other tuned percussion instruments. In 2010 he published the Object-Attribute Model of Audition; a revolutionary new account of hearing and music. he has since published a series of articles that provide computational and empirical support for the model, and strong support for the idea that musical pitch and dissonance are learnt, not innate. Neil has integrated these ideas into a new approach to music based on neuroscience, harmonic percussion ensembles and digital interactives that he is developing with Harmonix Instruments Pty Ltd.
