At the September 2016 District School Board Meeting, the District School Board unanimously approved an Application from the Charter Steering Committee to convert McKenzie River Elementary and McKenzie High School into a K-12 charter school that will start operating in the 2018/19 school year.
At the June 2017 District School Board Meeting, the School District Board and the McKenzie River Community School Charter Board signed the final contract.
