Intro R - Day 2

Monday, October 11, 2011 14h-16h (N4/17 - Stewart Biology)
Zofia Ecaterina Taranu

Topics

  • Opening and using R-Script files
  • Housekeeping
  • Setting working directory
  • Importing data (including messy data)
  • Saving data and figures (as high quality PDF)
  • Editing data
  • Exporting data

Learning Objectives

Get comfortable with R-Scripts. Create a folder containing your R project and learn how to tell R to save all data and figures to this folder.

Get data, and we mean any data, into R so you can start playing with it. This is a big step in your R learning curve. The purpose of this workshop is to show you not to discourage when error messages pop-up. You will learn how to deal with these error messages, use Help (?command) when problems come up, and smoothly import any data files!

Prerequisites

Opening R-Studio and writing a command in the R console.

Notes

Please download the "Stats workshop - Day 2.zip" folder and expand the folder on your computer. The powerpoint presentation, data files and R-script can all be found in this zipped folder! The R-script file contains a detailed run down of the whole workshop (numbered by section).

This workshop was originally designed and delivered by Etienne Low-Décarie.
