Celebrating 25 years of MCA Football !!

Welcome to the site.  Great things are happening at McIntosh County Academy, and 2008 looks to be a breakthrough year for the Bucs!

Playoffs - Round 1

Week 10

Charlton County      20

MCA                            0

MCA lost in the Swamp to a Charlton County team that played lights-out football Friday night.  MCA, Charlton County, and Appling County end the season as Co-Region Champions of 2-AA.  MCA still won their first AA Region Championship, but it was bittersweet on a night in which it was beat by the Charlton County Indians.  MCA lost the coin toss and will travel to Thomasville as a 3rd seed.  Contact the high school for information on going to the game on a charter bus at 912-437-6691.  $30 covers the cost of the bus ride as well as your game ticket.  The All-Region team was voted on this weekend, and we will let you let you know the results as soon as possible.

Week 9

MCA                          21

Pierce County           7

MCA won a hard-fought victory Friday night in Blackshear over the Pierce County Bears.  The Bears, known for their tough Defense, slowed down the MCA offensive attack and kept the game close.  Devahn Murphy was the star of the game, with two TDs (one Int and one Fumble recovery) and a forced fumble.  The Sr. LB was all over the field, and he even had a third TD called back.  Darries Robinson accounted for the other TD.

The Showdown for Region 2-AA:

MCA vs. Charlton County

The Bucs are still in the driver's seat and can win Region 2-AA outright if they take care of business Friday night in Folkston against a Charlton County that has historically dominated this region.  Charlton lost earlier this year to Appling County, and has played well enough to put itself back into contention for the Region Championship.  The Bucs have an opportunity to finish 10-0 and win a Region Championship in AA football for the first time in school history.

Week 8

MCA                          15

Appling County       12

MCA found itself in a dogfight in the monsoon-like at times rain Friday night at Buccaneer Field--down 12-7 in the third quarter after a 97 yard fumble return TD by Appling County.  The Bucs rallied back behing a 51 yard TD run by Darries Robinson and a safety by the Bucs defense to win a thriller.  The Bucs are now in the driver's seat for Region 2-AA with games at Pierce and Charlton remaining the next two weeks.

Week 7

MCA                          33

Tattnall County         0

MCA took control early and dismantled a good Tattnall County team 33-0.  The MCA defense forced six turnovers in posting its fourth shutout of the season.  QB Knox Robinson threw for 150 yards and two TDs to lead the offensive effort.  Jacob Caldwell and Darries Robinson were the recipients of those scores, and Darries Robinson also rushed for a score.  Chris Pierce rushed for a TD and was the leading rusher with 95 yards.  Manny Evans returned an interception for a TD.

The Showdown:

MCA vs. Appling County

The Thrilla in Manilla?  Forget it, this one's even bigger.  Friday night will be Senior Night for a tremendous Senior class in a game that will decide the Region 2-AA Championship between two undefeated and ranked teams.  Last year's game was a tremendous battle that saw the Bucs rally in the 4th Quarter and preserve the victory with a Devahn Murphy FG Block with two minutes left.  A big crowd is expected, so come out early and watch the Bucs make history this season.

Week 6

MCA                          62

Jeff Davis                  0

MCA started slowly after a scoreless first quarter, but quickly turned this game into a route.  RB Chris Pierce scored three TDs and Darries Robinson rushed for two TDs including a 69 yard run.  JoJo Wynn added a TD on the ground, Derrek Upshaw caught a TD, Brandon Walthour returned a punt for a TD, and Devahn Murphy caused and returned a fumble for a TD.

The Bucs season really starts this week with four huge region games coming up: Tattnall County, Pierce County, Appling County, and Charlton County.  This upcoming game vs. Tattnall will be Homecoming at MCA.  Tattnall has only one loss, in a close contest vs. Charlton, so it looks to be an exciting game.  Don't miss it.

Week 5

MCA                          42

Benedictine             21

Benedictine put a scare into the Bucs by storming out to a 21-7 lead behind the strength of their rushing attack, but the Bucs answered with 35 points to put the game away.  A bad punt snap by Benedictine allowed MCA to close the gap to 21-14 before half with a 17 yard TD pass from Knox Robinson to Darries Robinson.  The MCA defense made some adjustments and held the Cadets scoreless in the second half, while Junior RB Darries Robinson ran wild on the Benedictine defense for 18 carries for 238 yards and three TDs along with his receiving TD.  Knox Robinson threw for two TDs and DeAndre Sallins scooped a blocked punt for a TD.  The Bucs are now 5-0 and travel to Jeff Davis this week.  The Middle School team won and the JV team lost last week.

Week 4

MCA                          49

Long County             0

Darries Robinson returned the opening kickoff for a TD, and MCA rolled out to a 42-0 halftime lead en route to a dominating 49-0 victory over Long County.  Robinson added another long TD run, and Chris Pierce and Richie Austin each added two TDs.  Knox Robinson threw for one score to Devahn Murphy and the Defense added a safety.  MCA posted its second shutout of the year, and they have the top scoring defense in AA for the state of Georgia right now.  No opponent has scored more than one TD against the Bucs Defense.  The Bucs have a bye this week before hosting Benedictine on Friday, October 3rd.

The Middle school team won last week, but the JV team lost 27-13 vs. a tough Camden County team.  The grudge match for that game will be Monday, October 13 at home.

Week 3

MCA                          34

Brantley County        7

WTOC MCA vs Brantley Highlights

MCA raced to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, but there would be no more scoring until the 4th Quarter.  The Bucs scored three TDs in the final quarter, two of those by Devahn Murphy on Defense.  The MCA Defense led the way again for the Bucs, and Chris Pierce and Darries Robinson each rushed for more than 100 yards.  The Bucs are 3-0 overall and 1-0 in Region 2-AA.  They go to Long County this week and then have a bye week.  JV and Middle School teams also won last week to start their seasons 1-0.

Week 2

MCA                          21

Glynn Academy        3

MCA led only 6-3 at the half, but put the game away behind a strong running attack led by Darries Robinson and Chris Pierce.  Pierce rushed for 79 yards with 1 TD and Robinson rushed for 120 yards (all in the second half) and 1 TD, helping to give the Bucs a spark in the second half.  Manny Evans tipped a pass in the first half that was returned by SeQuan Stanley for a TD.  The Bucs begin region play next week at home vs. Brantley County looking to avenge last year's defeat to the Herons.

Week 1

MCA                          35

Liberty County          0

MCA dominated with their Defense and Special Teams en route to a big win over Liberty County.  LB SeQuan Stanley blocked two punts, one in which he scooped and scored for a TD.  Manny Evans returned an interception for a TD.  Knox Robinson connected on a 67-yard TD pass to Darries Robinson and Chris Pierce added two TDs on the ground.  The Bucs go to Glynn Academy next to take on the Red Terrors, who defeated Bradwell Institute 22-20.

MCA 2008 Preview

MCA had their best Fall Camp ever, and big things are expected this season.  18 starters return on a Senior-heavy team that expects to achieve great things.  The Defense is led by LB SeQuan Stanley and the Offense is led by RB Chris Pierce, who had a 179 yd and 2 TD performance vs Dublin in last year's playoffs.

Derrek Upshaw, Chris Pierce, and Greg Wynn help out with the clean-up effort.

The last Category 4 tornado to hit the state of Georgia was in 1919 according to a source.

MCA Track

MCA ended up finishing 3rd in Region 2-AA in Boys Track, even though they finished with more points than they did last year when they finished 2nd.  In a close 3-way finish, Appling County edged out Jeff Davis and MCA for the Region Championship.  Still, seven people qualified for the Boys State Track Meet in Jefferson, GA on May 8-10.

SeQuan Stanley finished 2nd and qualified in the shot put.  Derrek Upshaw finished 2nd and qualified in the discus.  The 4X400 team (Bryan Graham, Mike Felder, Teddy Richardson, and Marcus Jennings) finished 2nd and qualified for state.  Finally, Johnny Mitchell finished 1st in the 800 and qualified for state.

MCA Track

Since there's nothing else going on, let's get an update on MCA Track, since most of the football players are also running track.  There are two meets left before Region Preliminaries on Wednesday, April 16.  Region Finals are on Monday, April 21.

MCA finished second in the Region last year to Charlton County, but is looking strong this year and ready to stop Charlton's unbelievable streak of 17 consecutive years of winning the Region.  We will keep you updated.

Also, we just got approval from the County to build a new track to go along with the new Football Fieldhouse that hopefully will be ready later this year.  Great things are happening.  Stay posted.
