  • 2nd Annual Car Show at MBHS By Ethan Carroll    Editor-in-ChiefMorro Bay High is holding a  grand opening of its Auto Shop as well as a Car Show on Friday, February 17, 2017 from noon to 6 pm. The Auto Shop was recently renovated from funds of the $177 million Measure D bond. It was built by Anthony Palazzo, Ryan Pinkerton, Steve Stewart, and James Bueno.The ribbon cutting ceremony at 1 pm will be attended by District Superintendent, Dr. Eric Prater, and representatives from the San Luis Coastal Board of Trustees.         Mr. Bueno, automotive teacher said, “Community supports helps build programs,” The Car Show will feature car clubs, vendors and showcase students’ work.         “Auto has taught me a lot of real life skills ...

  • Touring European History At Hearst Castle By Ethan CarrollOn Tuesday, May 24, the Morro Bay High School AP European History class were given a private tour of Hearst Castle - a pilot program being developed by Museum Director Mary Levkoff and Program Director, Erin Gates. The tour for the students was funded by Friends of the Hearst Castle, a non profit community based organization, and coordinated with Sherill Van Dam, AP European History teacher at Morro Bay High School.“This is a really great opportunity and I am very grateful to the Tour Director, Erin Gates and Museum Director and Curator, Mary Levkoff for inviting us.   • Bands on the Run 2016 By Ethan CarrollThe Morro Bay High School third annual “Bands on the Run” promises to be a fun event for the whole family. The event, which will be held Saturday May 28, 2016, from 8:00 A.M. to noon, will involve a 5K, 10K and a half marathon run. Proceeds from the run benefit the music programs at Los Osos Middle School and Morro Bay High. The run begins at the high school and ends at Morro Rock.   • Morro Bay Cross Country Ready For Finals By Ethan CarrollOn Thursday, October 27th, 2016, the MBHS cross country team participated in the 5K SLO County Cross Country Championship at Laguna Lake. Other high schools participating included San Luis Obispo High, Mission Prep, Atascadero High, Arroyo Grande High, Paso Robles High, and Nipomo High.Racers ran two laps around the park in rain and wind, on terrain ranging from smooth asphalt to rocky paths. “It’s a little rainy, but that won’t slow us down,” said MBHS junior runner, Andrew Holder. “The rain is gonna feel nice since it gets here.   • Top Notch Facilities for Top Notch Students By Ethan CarrollThe brand-new tennis courts at Morro Bay High School were inaugurated with the Pirates’ tennis match against Templeton High School Eagles on Tuesday, September 20. The Pirates won 10-8.Thanks to Measure D, the tennis courts have been refurbished, repaved and repainted at an estimated cost of $300,000.   • Morro Bay Pirates Storm Past Tigers Defense 29-20 By Ethan CarrollMorro Bay High and San Luis High have a long, established history of rivalry at their football game each year. Friday night’s game (September 16) was a chance to even the Pirates’ defeat last year against the Tigers. Morro Bay ended the first quarter 13-0 but rallied to sail past the opposition for a final score of 29-20.Before the game, Varsity Coach David Kelley said, “The rivalry is intense but we are very well prepared for our game against San Luis High”.
