Truth or Truth

This game was invented by a group of Claremont Campers on one of our camping trips in 2009, and has been played at least a little on every trip since.

Truth or Truth is a very simple Truth or Dare variant. Basically, instead of offering a player a blind choice between a truth and a dare, you offer them a fully informed choice between two truths. The goal of the game is to encourage conversation between players and facilitate storytelling. The rules are quite simple.

01. Player A selects another player, who we shall call Player B.

02. Player A asks Player B "Truth or truth?"

03. Player B offers the traditional response of "Truth," because there is not another option.

04. Player A then poses two questions to the second player.

05. Player B then selects one of the questions to answer at their sole discretion.

06. Player B then answers the question they have selected.

07. Repeat, with Player B selecting another player.

We have played with a house rule of no tagbacks, and a goal of including all the players. If a player can't think of two questions, and someone else can, sure, they can jump in. If another player feels inspired to take the limelight and answer a question too, why not?

The only rule with regard to the questions themselves is Rule 1: Don't Be A Jackass. No asking an icky or unanswerable question because you really want a player to answer the other. Remember: the goal of this game is to provide a structured way to facilitate positive interactions between people. If you find yourself doing something contrary to that, you are playing a different game.

This game has the potential to result in a number of really amazing conversations late into the night, with none of the annoying lack of creativity or activation energy that plague games of Truth or Dare.

Enjoy!
