Alice Harris

West Russell Drainage Project

THIS PROJECT WAS GRANTED EXPEDITED TREATMENT AT THE REQUEST OF ALDERMAN EUGENE RED JOHNSON

Ms. Alice Harris, retired educator, requested that a now closed drainage ditch be reopened. This ditch had been closed for a number of years and was causing rain waters to back up into her yard and making her feel uncomfortable about potential flooding.

The Street, Sanitation, Water and Fire Departments teamed up today and in the span of about 3 hours cleared more than 700 feet of drainage, cut three (3) small trees and tore down a 1000 square foot house.

This photo depicts the project at the very beginning. The ditch does not seem to exist in this picture.

Ms. Harris is giving instructions on how this project should be completed.

The part time crew helps out with the project. They remove the residual waste such that the water can be flushed through the drainage pipes by the Water and Fire Departments.

The Water Dept brought its sewer cleaning machine to the scene to help "blow" out the drainage pipes. Ken Fratesi, Water Company (West) manager, came to the scene and provided great assistance.

The ditch is back!

In the end, the tall guy gets the credit. Here's Oscar Hoskins getting a hug from his former school teacher, Ms. Alice Harris.
