My life over the fifty years since we graduated

I have been very fortunate. After Maynard High School I went to Tufts where I graduated magna cum laude and then on to the University of Pennsylvania Law School where I was able to also take courses at Wharton. I made very good grades and took a job at Salomon Brothers, which I joined on Bastille day 1969. My career was most rewarding both in job satisfaction and financially. I retired on Bastille day, 1994 owning a grand Park Avenue apartment and a large country house in South Kent, Ct where some of my neighbors were Henry and Nancy Kissinger and Oscar and Annette de la Renta. I sold both places as part of a divorce settlement and now have a lovely townhouse in New Preston, CT.

Since 1994 I have spent my time managing my portfolio, traveling and reading voraciously. I have had a couple of bouts of cancer from which I have recovered successfully. I am a bit creaky as I have balance problems however I have my caretakers from my big house in South Kent who live down the road and take good care of me.

I have two children. Elizabeth, who is now 27, was born brain damaged. Primarily due to her mother who is a physician and neurologist, she got excellent treatment and now lives happily in a group home with a room overlooking Gramercy Park. She is a very happy young lady and spends time with me and her mother and me.

My son Bradley is now 30. He had a great education at St Bernard’s in Manhattan, Choate, Tulane and then law school where he was editor of the law review and now works for a hedge fund. Just like his father he is both a lawyer and a financier and fortunately doing very well financially in this difficult economy. He is a very smart and decent man and is engaged to marry a lovely woman who is an excellent school teacher.

Upon reading the posted biographies of the Class of ’61 I was surprised and sad to see how many of us are already deceased, often dying at a relatively young age.

Sorry that I cannot be with you, however I am going to be out of the country the month of the reunion.

My best wishes to you all,

John
